History
A number one lasting Anglo-Western award in the Northwest Territory was founded here in the 1780s, and was known as Bellefontaine (French for Beautiful Spring) at the places of a spring on the Kaskaskia Trail between Kaskaskia, Illinois and Cahokia, Illinois. Within 1816, Emery Peters Rogers settled here & began the lasting store, mill, & quarry therein metropolitan area which became called Peterstown, fallowing his title.
